The redesigned Mediterranean-style Via Bice debuted in early December off Worth Avenue, alongside four new retailers, more than three years after the town approved the project.

“Think Capri, think Positano, think Aperol spritz,” said Hollis Pica, a spokeswoman for the via’s owner during a welcoming speech at the Dec. 7 grand reopening, which was themed Bring Back the Glam. “This is what should come to mind when we think of Via Bice, the shopping and dining destination of Palm Beach Island inspired by Italian glamour.”

Just west of Hibiscus Avenue, the mixed-use property includes retail on the ground floor, office spaces above, and its namesake and anchor, Bice Ristorante, to the north. More than 150 guests gathered to celebrate the revival of the luxury retail piazza.

Architect Jeffery Smith of the Smith Architectural Group redesigned Via Bice. The property’s hand-chiseled Portuguese floor tiles, as well as its bougainvillea-draped pergola that extends over the courtyard, have elevated the via’s outdated 1970s look and created an “artistic type of retail (space) in a very upscale environment,” said a representative of the via’s owner, the Amirsaleh Family Trust.

Tricony Management sold the Via at 313 ½ Worth Ave. to Via Bice Worth Avenue. a limited liability company and an affiliate of the Amirsaleh Family Trust, for $19.5 million in March 2017, property records show.

The via’s landscape design was handled by Mario Nievera of Nievera Williams, who attended the event. Batten Construction was the contractor.

The sounds of a violin encircled guests under the night sky as they stood on either side of the mosaic tile floor to create a runway for models who wore looks from seven of the via’s fashion boutiques: MAAC London, Frances Valentine, J’Da, Joy West, Coastal Girls, Eye of the Needle, and CJ Laing – one of the newest tenants.

While CJ Laing is new to Via Bice, the boutique is no stranger to Palm Beach. Before it moved to the via, it was located in Via Mizner down the street. The Amirsaleh Family Trust owns the majority of the property in Via Mizner.

A collaboration between store founder and designer Jack Laing and Alice Russell, the creative director, CJ Laing carries resort apparel, handpicked jewelry and accessories that provide “color, beauty and classic shapes.”

“It feels like we are at ground zero with where we are starting because it is all new,” said Laing, who noted that his previous storefront was significantly smaller.

“I feel like we are authentically Palm Beach,” Russell said. “I feel like we have a really good sense of how people like to dress, how they need to dress.”

“What makes them feel good, happy, comfortable,” Laing continued. “What we make, they feel right in.”

The boutique’s newly renovated location has already drawn new customers, Russell said.

“We are so happy to be in this via and meeting new friends. I’ve especially noticed how many new customers we have seen,” she said. “Every day, we see people who are first-time purchasers, which is great.”

Interior designer Mally Skok’s business is new to the via but her work has already received recognition from Palm Beach residents. Boston-based Mally Skok Design offers clients hand-painted fabrics and wallpapers, vintage pieces and woven fabrics made to transform a space.

“Everything is close to my heart in here,” said Skok, who designs and hand-paints her pieces. “It’s an example of who I am.”

In April, she debuted her work at the Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach on South Flagler Drive in West Palm Beach, where she designed the upstairs sitting room of the property with her newest collection of fabrics and wallpapers.

Having a permanent address on Via Bice, the seasonal resident will split her time between Palm Beach, Boston and, eventually, her native South Africa.

“I’m very proud to be on Via Bice because it’s such a historic area, and everything has this beautiful atmosphere and timelessness,” Skok said. “It’s a great privilege to be here. I love the people. I love the diversity – young, old, and people from all over the country.”

Via Bice also welcomed luxury boutiques Serenella, which relocated from the Royal Poinciana Plaza, and Joy West Collection, which has other locations in Aspen and Nantucket.

“We believe the town of Palm Beach is super-special and we are very happy to be a part of (it) and Worth Avenue,” an Amirsaleh Family trust representative said. “All of the efforts (from the shop owners and artisans) are to contribute to the totality of what this retail atmosphere brings about and makes it special. It’s a world-class retail experience.”
